Emulsion Transfers are also printed from 35mm slides onto either 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 or 8 x 10 Polaroid sheet film. They are fully developed as a Polaroid photograph, and allowed to dry overnight. The print is then placed in boiling water for approximately 4 minutes. Then it's placed in cool water and you slowly separate the emulsion from the backing of the print. If it doesn't tear, you end up with a very thin wad of emulsion. Carefully, it is slid onto a piece of wax paper and manipulated to achieve the desired effect. It is extremely hard to make any two alike. The final result can be very surreal.
